Film - Club scenes

Over the past few months Ive seen so many films which feature a club scene in it at some point. These scenes usually feature high intense lighting/strobe, kick ass music track's and many other techniques that many directors are all using to get across the real hype experience of being in a packed nightclub.

Every time i see one Im going to add it to my blog and see just what techniques the directors use.

Ok the first one im going to start off with is a scene from the film "Collateral" staring Tom Cruise and Jamie Fox. This film is one of my favorites and the first time I saw this film i was like woah. It keeps you completely interested on tom cruise's character and how he uses Jamie Fox as a decoy to go about his assinations. The Club itself's has been chose not just because of the strobe lighting but also the walls are tiled with plasma tv's that give out a blue glow onto the characters faces. 

Now in a real club it would obviously be alot darker but the use of lighting focus's on the main characters and not the hundreds of extras which are still silhouettes figures in the background. The music also plays a big part in this scene building tension to the point of the assination.

Title sequence Uni Project - The Office

This is a quick guide to how to create a success walk sequence. I am going to try my own and use it in my final animation. My first attempt lacked weight or arm movement something i need to incorporate into my second attempt.

Test- Walk sequence

This is a small walk sequence I put together in illustrator.... Ive been thinking about which way of drawing animation is fastest. This took me a long time and I dont think the walk looks very realistic either. I may try hand drawn flickbook style animation next.

The Office UK and US - intro

For my title sequence brief I am redesigning the intro for the office. This is the original intro for both the UK and US versions. They just show people doing their everyday jobs in the office with a music track over the top.

M&S Advert - Hyperreality

Hyperreality has a big role in the way we advertise in the present time. How we make the products we sell look better than they actually are. This advert for Marks and Spencer's food range gives a clear example of hyperreality.

This 'Food porn' uses the slow classical sound of string instruments playing with the delicate touch of a knife's and fork's playing with the hyperreal food. Yes this makes me want to go to M&S right now and get my mouth around "xmas pudding packed with plumped sulatana's"

proving that hyperreality really sells well!

Human synthesizers

Okay I have already posted the video to the Calvin Harris track Ready for the weekend. I was actually looking for the music video director when I came across this human synth video used for the track.

The instrument employs 15 bikini clad models painted with Bare Conductive, a new skin safe ink which conducts electricity. When the performers touch the connection completes a circuit, triggering a sound.

The instrument consists of 34 pads on the floor which have been painted with the conductive ink and connected to a computer via some clever custom electronics. The performers stand on the pads, and touch hands to complete a circuit and trigger a sound. Different combinations of pads trigger the different sounds needed to play the track.

The project is the result of a collaboration between Calvin Harris and masters students from the Royal College of Art's Industrial Design Engineering programme.

This a blog I found interesting, The blog is by the "we made this" graphic design company and they just put things up that they see and find interesting, when looking at some of their posts, I wished that I had found some of the stuff before them.

Ed Franc Babb - Collage

Ed Franc Babb is a multi skilled artist based in Cape town, South Africa. I was recently reading an article about the design talent coming from south africa when i stumbled across this guys website. He tries his hand with different types of design from collage/illustration and even 3d animation. I am particulary impressed with his collage pieces which are shown below.

Calvin harris music video/ Chemical brothers

Ok I know Calvin Harris cant sing...... But his music is funky and he has great music videos!

In his latest video the use of camera trickery and colour composition (and good looking girls dancing around in swim wear) go well with his music actually making it sound/look better than it is.

When I first saw this video I thought it might have been the work of Michel Gondry renound for this type of work (camera trickery).

This made me think about a chemical brothers music video directed by Gondry that I saw a while ago which also uses dancing girls,cardboard cut outs to trick the camera. maybe a major influence in the making of this calvin video.

Catch Me If You Can Animation

This is the title sequence for catch me if you can. I like the style of the animation possibly influenced by The Adventures of Prince Achmed with its silhouette figures and colourful backgrounds giving a brief idea of what the film is about. I also think the mellow jazz music playing works well with the animation.
