Calvin harris music video/ Chemical brothers

Ok I know Calvin Harris cant sing...... But his music is funky and he has great music videos!

In his latest video the use of camera trickery and colour composition (and good looking girls dancing around in swim wear) go well with his music actually making it sound/look better than it is.

When I first saw this video I thought it might have been the work of Michel Gondry renound for this type of work (camera trickery).

This made me think about a chemical brothers music video directed by Gondry that I saw a while ago which also uses dancing girls,cardboard cut outs to trick the camera. maybe a major influence in the making of this calvin video.

Catch Me If You Can Animation

This is the title sequence for catch me if you can. I like the style of the animation possibly influenced by The Adventures of Prince Achmed with its silhouette figures and colourful backgrounds giving a brief idea of what the film is about. I also think the mellow jazz music playing works well with the animation.

Levi's Ad - Flat Eric

I was originally researching animation when I came across this little gem of advertising.

Levi’s who are renound for their advertisements brought out this in the late 90's, The music and the furry little friend took the world by storm – topping the charts and bringing out a popular imitation puppet. The response was so immense that Levi’s broke their one-campaign-only rule and brought Flat Eric back for another campaign.

Looking at the success of this ad. I can see where new adverts such as Compare the Market/Meerkat adverts are getting their inspiration from...Everyone loves to see something cuddly!

Kinetic Type - Youtube upload

Ok after being briefed on our new module based on kinetic type, I had a gander on youtube to see what kinda stuff people had been posting. This piece created in After Effects uses an extract of oceans 11 (Great film) Which I thought looked great and was a good choice due to the witty content of the dialogue.

Nike - Take it to the next level

 While watching some adverts at halftime on sunday, When I remembered a great advert I had seen a while back, I searched for it and found out Guy Ritchie actually directed the Ad. 

The two minute clip is shot from the point of view of a lower-league football player who quickly moves up the ranks to international stardom. You never see the face of the player only his arms and legs so it really captures the true view seen from the eyes.

The fast paced music keeps you interested and hurry's the advert along nicely. A great piece from nike and Mr. Ritchie.

SONY PSP Advert - Hole world in your hands

During the Easter Holidays I did a weeks work experience with a graphic design company called Love Creative based in Manchester. They were currently working alongside a moving image company called The Neighbourhood which were working on this advert for Sony PSP....While Love Creative did the flat adverts for billboards/magazines etc..... I think they took on the ideas from the highly successful ipod adverts while creating this advert with its bright changing colours and background music.  I like the advert which is probably aimed at younger teenagers and think they sell the product well.

Albufeira Marina - Something abit different

Ok heres something I thought Id put up,

Why do apartments have to be white? 

well the designers of these buildings thought just that and decided to paint them every colour under the sun

These building Block like buildings overlooking the Marina 

have become a popular icon of Albufeira. 

But I have to say its abit of a Marmite decision,

You either hate it or love it.

Noah Kalina - One picture a day for 6 years

January 11, 2000 - July 31, 2006. 2356 Days, 

Noah Kalina took a picture everyday for six years and then compiled his images into a 5.45 fast paced piece.

I stumbled over this video last year when researching for my new way of looking brief when I was interested in time lapse,

This video really grabbed my attention because of the 

effort it took to take a picture every single day 

and the way it is presented with the fast piano playing 

as the background music. 

Its a great idea.... I think the way you see his hair grow

and the constant change in clothes and backdrop 

makes the piece more even more interesting.

Lord Of War Intro

This has to be one of the best movie intro's of all time, The film based on the story of an arms dealer starring Nicolas Cage is a favourite of mine but for me the intro sequence tops it off. 

It shows the life of a bullet from its manufacture stages up to the point when it kills a man, The camera stays firmly fixed on the one bullet like a "Bullet cam", The first time I watched this it made me think about how one small piece of metal which is getting sold for peanuts can put an end to a valuable life; quite an effective piece.

Quirky piece of advertising - Old jamaica ginger beer

Happened to come across one of these adverts in a newspaper. I thought it was a good way to put the slogan "Fight fire with fire" across to any possible buyers. the adverts show a series of everyday fire resistance with the product in its place. The next time I went to the shops I made sure I got some fiery Ginger beer :).

Jean Baptiste Mondino - Madonna music video

The other day I was watching one of those time killing countdown's on one of the music channels. It happened to be the countdown of the greatest Madonna songs of all time. 

I thought this video for the song Tell me was great in terms of its Cinematography. I did a little research and found out a guy called Jean Baptiste Mondino directed the video. Mondino uses the beat in the music to trigger quick cuts/zooms/speed; in the video.

Casino title sequence

Okay I know I haven't posted anything on my blog yet mainly due to the fact that I haven't been looking closely enough at the things I do everyday. 

Strangely enough it wasn't until I was half asleep on my mates sofa to discover an amazing piece of moving image. Flicking through the channels we decided on the film Casino starring Robert De Niro. I was just about to nod off when the opening credits unfolded before my eyes a beautiful energetic piece of abstract animation that dazzled my eyes for four minutes. The next day it came to no suprise to me that this title sequence had beeen created by Saul Bass a man renounded for this kind of animation. A piece I definetly thought deserved to be uploaded onto my blog.
