LOVE - Portfolio Visit

Love creative Is a graphic design company based in the center of Manchester. Last year a gained a weeks work experience at the company because my dad knew an Employee named Phil Skegg that worked there. During my time there I watched designers work on live briefs. As well as giving me a brief to work on.

The company shares its large office space with another company called The Neighbourhood which specialises in Moving image, Using a variety of programmes such as Flash,After Effects and 3d animation.

Phill has had a word with The Neighboorhood and thinks it is likely I may be able to go for a Work placement sometime in the third year which would be great to get experience and also build links with a moving image company.

When I went for my portfolio visit with Phill he called over one of his co-workers and they both sat and watched a few pieces of my work. They were impressed at the idea and production of my Science Channel Ident and they could definetly see where i was coming from. They also were impressed with my technical ability in both my title sequence and also my current DO Lectures brief which im using 3D for.

Something they said might help me to come up with ideas in the future was to start drawing from an early stage and create small animation just to get a feel of what something will look like and I can then proceed to change my idea when I know what will work and what wont.

The Guys from love gave me really good feedback and also ways to improve and develop my ideas. It would also be great if they could get me hooked up with the Moving Image company.

American neon signs

A compilation of neon signs in america...the very last one interests me because of its flickering light. this is the style of neon light I want to create in my do lectures ident. The america style is big in your face and often animates in 2 or 3 frames.

Piccadilly Circus

Quick look at the neon screens in london. Almost become a landmark due to its popularity at picaddily gardens. The LCD screens light up the streets at night with their glow.

When I create my ad I will have to take into account the glow on the room it is based in.

Neon Girl

This ad for soap shows the life of a neon girl. They have taken the reference from big american neon lights advertising cafe's and bars. This links with the glossy look of both the soap and the neon perfectness.

02- Neon ad

This 02 ad i remember from a few years ago. it follows my idea of having a Do logo made out of neon tubes. It mixes 3d neon with live footage of the background.

The Killing of JL - Composition Masterpiece

Saw this film advertised before a dvd I watched.... looked interesting so I bought it.
However I didnt know that this film would be so amazingly directed, acted and shot.

Directed and wrote by Andrew Piddington. The film focuses on the true story of John Lennons death from the killers view... Mark Chapman played by Jonas Ball a fairly unknown actor who portrays Chapman in a way I can only describe as interesting and different.

The lighting in this film and the composition compliment the acting of Jonas Ball making it a very interesting and beautiful film to watch.

We are seventeen

When we recently travelled down to London we visited the design company "We are seventeen".

We are seventeen are based in a small flat like studio. They produce motion graphics work for different companys across the world...they were even talking about designing an ident for a middle eastern channel in the future.

They showed us the piece they had just finished which was to give a new channel called the Universal channel an identity. They used a combination of 3d,green screening and after effects to produce short idents which all had a a different look/colour palette.

The company had a very relaxed feel to it as it was based in a flat and with only three members they had plenty of time to interact and help each other. This is the type of company I could see myself working at in the future this would benefit my learning skills at the same time feeding of other people.

Epic Old Spice advert

I saw this american ad on the internet and I think its amazing. Sure its over the top but it doesnt take itself too seriously and gets the point across with humor. Makes you feel energised watching it.

Carlsberg - Great at robbing my ideas

Ok when I gave my first pitch to the class and to thoughtful. ne of my ideas branching off from teh webcam idea was to ahve people saying the word do repeatedly into their webcam and making a tune of of it.

However Carlsberg have since robbed my idea for their new england advert. I will have to rethink this one.

Webcam Collaboration - Do!

Ok the first word that came into my head when thinking about people doing stuff was this video collaboration of people on their webcams all combining to produce a song and an interesting video.

In the do lectures case they could all hold up cards spelling out the word do at the end.

DO Lectures

The brief I am currently working on alongside Doritos is to create a an ident for Do Lectures.

Do lectures" are a series of inspiring talks by different lecturers. The logo is quite simple but the keys connected to the letters makes it not so simple to use in any old way. Its definitely something im going to have to think about!

Final Doritos Advert

This is my final 29 second doritos ad. this version contains small amount of humorous violence. something I will have to change when I come to enter the competition.

The idea comes from one of the trigger happy tv sketches. and focus's on unusually random humor to grab the attention of the viewers. Although the advert isnt an epic im sure if it was shown on tv it would have people talking about it the next day in work or school making it a successful ad.
